Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Celebrant legally marry us?
In England Celebrants are not allowed to perform marriages. However, couples can have a celebrant-led ceremony and register their marriage with a registrar either before, on or after the wedding day.
What's the difference between a Registrar wedding ceremony and a Celebrant wedding ceremony?
All Registrar services are identical. They can be expensive especially at weekends, they are strict with timings as there are many services in one day and there is no personalisation. Whereas generally Celebrants conduct just one possibly two ceremonies in a day, providing much more flexibility to the couple. Celebrants also meet their couples before the ceremony, in contrast to registrars who only turn up on the day with no knowledge of a couple.
Why choose me to write and conduct your ceremony?
I studied Celebrancy with ‘The Academy of Modern Celebrancy’ and I’m a Certified Independent Modern Celebrant. My aim is to work closely with you to get to know and understand you which then allows me to craft a bespoke, personally created, individual and perfect script to deliver on your very special day. When written well inclusive ceremonies can make your guests feel a big part of your day too. Whatever you want we can make it happen! I am committed and knowledgable with a great sense of fun and humour and if we gel I’m your gal!
Do I need to choose a venue with a wedding licence for a Celebrant-led ceremony?
A celebrant gives couples the chance to say their (own) vows wherever they choose, whether that be in their own garden, a woodland or any outdoor space (even castles or beaches!). The options are limitless with some permissions being needed of course! Having the ceremony in a location without a wedding license (from the local authority) can often cut the overall cost of a wedding for many couples because licensed venues have higher rates to (officially) hold a (registered) wedding therefore, the cost is passed on to the couple(s), whereas with a celebrant, the couples have complete location freedom allowing them to choose locations that aren’t necessarily traditional or typically wedding venues.
What is an independent Celebrant and why hire one?
In a nutshell, the role of a celebrant is multifaceted and deeply impactful. They bring expertise, creativity, and a whole lot of heart to the ceremonies they officiate, ensuring each event is personalised and memorable. Whether it’s a wedding, funeral, or any other significant life event, celebrants turn moments into cherished memories that last a lifetime. A celebrant acts like a master of ceremonies and unlike traditional officiants, modern celebrants creatively tailor and scatter their influence on non-religious and interfaith ceremonies.
